Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages was founded in 1984.

Being the main linguistic centre of the country Azadi Turkmen National Institute plays an important role in training philologists, translators and interpreters. There are 3 faculties and 12 departments at the Institute. 117 professors, lecturers and teachers work here. They train 805 students for activities in different branches of the national economy of Turkmenistan.

The far-sighted policy of the first President of Independent Neutral Turkmenistan Saparmurat Turkmenbashi the Great is aimed at achieving the full economic independence of the country and a high level of the industrial development of the country; it is based on long-term development plans of all the branches of the national economy. According to these tasks Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages carries out training linguists, translators and interpreters using foreign languages in their activities in different branches of the national economy of Turkmenistan. Training the students is based on their further probation at the state institutions (40% of theoretical subjects and 60% of practical training) using international experience.

Under the Institute the Dil Self-Financed Language Centre, the English Language Centre, the Lingwa Centre of the Foreign Languages, the Centre of the Simultaneous Interpreting, the Orient Centre, the Turkish Language Centre, the Cultural Heritage Centre and video and computer laboratories function. They promote improvement of the students’ knowledge in the sphere of computer technology, economics and business English. Besides, they assist in preparing students for work under the market conditions.

The Institute expands its international contacts aimed at wide use of international experience in teaching foreign languages improving the educational process and developing scientific research.

 


Institute Faculties

The Faculty of Romance and Germanic Languages and Literature trains linguists, translators and interpreters from and into English, French, German and Spanish.

The Faculty of the Oriental Languages and Literature trains linguists, translators and interpreters from and into Arabic, Turkish, Persian and Chinese.

The Faculty of Russian Language and Literature trains linguists, translators and interpreters from and into Russian.

The talented youth of the Institute spend their free time participating in the Altyn Miras Centre including a dance and folklore groups, a carpet-making circle, a poetry cirlce, the students’ drama theatre and Azadi Students’ Sport Club. The students are going in for football, volleyball, basketball, tennis, swimming, chess and other kinds of sports being trained by highly qualified coaches.

The sportsmen of the Institute often win awards at the competitions among the higher educational institutions.

The students have good living conditions at the hostels. There is a good canteen at the Institute.
