Public transport In Ashgabat there are several means of public transport: bus, trolleybus and marshrutnoe taxi. (Trolley) buses are identified by number or end destination. They are not often used by experts since they offer a rather slow and crowded service during the rush hour. Route maps are scarce.
Marshrutnoe taxis are minibuses that follow set routes anywhere along which they pick up and drop off passengers. Non-Russian or Turkmen speakers will find it difficult to use this type of transport.
Taxi You can find a taxi on the street or at a special taxi stand. Take the precautions set out previously (see ‘How to get around’).
Hiring a car and driver If you need a car for the whole day or to go to the airport, you can hire a car (usually with driver). Expect to pay about $15 per day. The Coordinating Unit can make the necessary arrangements upon request, but does not accept any responsibility for non-performance by the driver.
