Libraries Support programme

1.

Development and implementation of a scheme to provide NIS researchers
with access to scientific literature based on electronic delivery to NIS libraries

OBJECTIVES

The aim of the contract is the development and implemention of an electronic system of access to scientific literature for NIS scientists in the 11 selected NIS taking into account existing provision of scientific literature in the NIS.

11 NIS countries - Armenia, Azebaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan.

Specific objectives:

  •   To establish the current provision of scientific literature in the selected NIS and identify the gaps in literature being provided.

  •   To provide unlimited access, primarily by electronic means, to a maximum number of scientific journals and/or articles covering all scientific domains

  •   To connect libraries in target countries with databases and/or libraries in INTAS member states

  •   To develop a network of libraries, national and international, to interface with the scientists in the target countries to ensure maximum access to scientific literature

  •   To provide training to the selected libraries in the NIS to ensure effective operation of the system and to benefit a maximum number of users.

3.    TASKS

The work will be divided into two phases. The first phase will lead to the definition of needs, upon successful completion of the first phase and agreement by INTAS,
Phase 2 will then be carried out.

PHASE 1

Establishing the current situation of scientific literature provision/availability in the NIS target countries, identifying needs, defining the provision of services
by the INTAS consortium.

PHASE 2

Upon successful completion of Phase 1:

Set up of services in NIS, training, promotion and delivery of services.
