Using this guide

Information contained in the guide

The guide follows a logical sequence, preparing you for your departure, your arrival and subsequently for your day-to-day working life in Turkmenistan. It is therefore split into two parts:

No distinction has been made between information required by resident as opposed to short-term experts, but the guide has been clearly structured to enable you to select the information relevant to you.

Practical information

The practical information is split into five sections.

General information

This section is split into two parts.

Keeping up to date

Turkmenistan is changing rapidly. Information which is current one day can become outdated the next. Much information about living and working in Turkmenistan is therefore passed on by word of mouth or is published in local newspapers and magazines.

This guide therefore contains the basic information and advice which you should find useful both before you leave to join your Tacis project in Turkmenistan and once you have arrived. It is by no means comprehensive but should highlight important matters for consideration and point you in the right direction for further information.

Although every attempt is made to keep the guide up to date, there may be cases where information is outdated. If you find this is the case, or if you find additional information which you think would be useful for Tacis experts in the future, please fax or send your comments to the following address:
